Papers, 1824.

This collection contains a three-page letter, dated "Troy, Sept. 20, 1824," from Elizabeth to her father that describes in detail Lafayette's visit to Troy, N.Y., and to the Troy Female Seminary. Near the end of the letter Elizabeth includes comments about her roommates, "...3 little girls from the West Indies placed under my care..." Elizabeth also writes, "Aunt W____ composed an ode which was sung a copy of which I shall send you--and hope you will keep it safe till my return home--and then I will sing it to you. It was with a great deal of trouble that I could procure it. There were a great many copy printed but they were soon gone." A photocopy of the ode, entitled "La Fayette's Welcome at the Female Seminary in Troy: written by the principal, and sung by the pupils," is also included in the collection.
